Many of our customers wonder how our shoes perform in rain or light drizzle.
Here is an overview of the most important materials and their properties.
Wool / Merino Wool
Merino wool is a naturally water-repellent material.
- Light rain or drizzle initially beads off
- At the same time, wool can absorb and regulate moisture
- In heavier rain, the material may become saturated → not recommended for heavy rain
👉 Ideal for: everyday use & light drizzle
Eucalyptus Fiber / Lyocell
These materials are:
- breathable
- moisture-regulating
👉 They remain comfortable even in slightly damp conditions
Suede (pig leather)
- Soft, open-pored leather
- Absorbs moisture easily
- Can develop stains when wet
👉 Waterproofing (impregnation) is strongly recommended before first use to maintain long-lasting appearance
Nubuck Leather (cow leather)
- Finely sanded leather
- Similar sensitivity to suede
👉 Regular impregnation helps protect against moisture
Recycled Polyester
- More resistant to moisture
- Dries quickly
- Often used in combination with other materials
Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU)
(usually used in the sole)
- Waterproof and durable
- Provides good grip on wet surfaces
💡 Do you offer waterproof models?
Yes! 😊
👉 We also offer specially designed waterproof models suitable for heavier rain and wet conditions.
These models feature:
- water-repellent or waterproof membranes
- additional protective layers
- optimized construction to prevent water from entering
Our conclusion
- Many of our models are suitable for light rain and everyday use
- For heavy or prolonged rain, we recommend our waterproof models
- Natural materials like wool and leather should ideally be treated with a waterproofing spray
👉 For additional protection, we recommend regularly impregnating your Giesswein shoes
