A high instep means that the upper part of the foot (the instep/midfoot area) is more pronounced than average. This often leads to pressure on the top of the foot, difficulty putting shoes on, or a tight, constricting feeling—especially with firm materials, seams, or tight closures. Shoes should therefore offer flexible uppers, sufficient volume, and a pressure-free fit.
For this reason, we particularly recommend our Giesswein walk and knitted walk models. Thanks to their soft, elastic materials, these shoes adapt well to the foot and provide a sock-like feel with even pressure distribution.
Suitable Giesswein models for a high instep include:

Wool Craft – Art. No. 82-10-49378 / 49379
Why these models are suitable:
soft, adaptable materials made from Merino Wool
reduced pressure on the instep thanks to flexible knit/upper construction
comfortable entry, in some cases without tight lacing
excellent foot climate, even for sensitive feet
💡 Tip: If the shoe feels tight across the instep, loosening the laces or using an alternative lacing technique can help. A thinner insole may also create extra space over the instep.
