Our shoes are manufactured according to standard EU shoe sizes and are based on these measurements.
However, some of our customers ask us:
- "I always wear size 39 in GIESSWEIN shoes – why doesn't this model fit me?"
- "Why does my Merino Runner fit perfectly, while the Wool Peak feels narrower?"
- "Should I order the same size for every model?"
The answer is simple: Not every shoe is built the same way. Just like clothing, different shoe models have different fits, lasts and intended uses.
💚 That's why you may prefer a different size or fit depending on the model.
Every shoe has its own last
A last is the foot-shaped form around which a shoe is constructed.
Depending on its intended purpose, our models may differ in:
- forefoot width
- toe box height
- instep volume
- heel shape
- sole construction
- upper material
As a result, two shoes in the same size can feel quite different.
Why is that?
Each GIESSWEIN shoe is designed for a specific purpose.
For example:
👟 A lightweight everyday sneaker has different requirements than
🥾 an outdoor or hiking shoe.
Sportier models are often designed to provide more support, while casual shoes may feel slightly more relaxed.
That's why there isn't one single fit that works for every model.
The material also makes a difference
Different materials behave differently.
For example:
- Merino wool is especially soft and flexible.
- Virgin wool has its own unique texture depending on the model.
- Leather gradually adapts to your foot over time.
- Waterproof membranes or reinforced constructions may feel slightly firmer at first.
This means that even shoes built on a similar last can feel different depending on the material.
One model fits perfectly – another doesn't
This is completely normal.
The shoe size only determines the length of the shoe.
How the shoe actually feels depends on many additional factors, including:
- foot width
- foot volume
- instep height
- toe shape
- heel shape
- the socks you wear
- your personal preference for a snug or relaxed fit
For this reason, many customers wear different sizes depending on the model.
Which size should I order?
On every product page you will find:
- a size guide
- fit recommendations
- information on whether the model runs small, large or true to size
These recommendations will help you choose the right size.
Between two sizes?
If you're between sizes or unsure, we recommend ordering both sizes.
At GIESSWEIN you benefit from:
✅ Free shipping
✅ Free returns
This allows you to try both sizes comfortably at home and return the one that doesn't fit free of charge.
Need extra room?
If you have wider or fuller feet, we recommend our models in Width H.
They provide additional room in the forefoot area for enhanced comfort.
