As soon as your order is on its way with DHL, you can check the current shipping status directly via DHL Shipment Tracking. Your DHL tracking number always begins with JJD..
There you can see where your parcel is, when it is expected to be delivered and – once delivery has taken place – to whom or where the parcel was handed over.
How can I track my DHL shipment?
Open DHL Shipment Tracking and enter your DHL tracking number.
The tracking number is not your GIESSWEIN order number. DHL uses a separate tracking number for parcel tracking. It may contain numbers and letters.
After entering the tracking number, you will see the current status of your shipment.
What information can I see in DHL Shipment Tracking?
Depending on the shipment status, the following information may be displayed:
- current DHL tracking number
- current shipment status
- destination country
- expected delivery date
- date and time of delivery
- information on whether the parcel has already been loaded into the delivery vehicle
- information on whether the parcel has already been delivered
- delivery to the recipient
- delivery to a neighbour
- delivery to a designated safe place
- delivery to the mailbox
- forwarding to a DHL ServicePoint or Packstation
- detailed shipment history
After successful delivery, DHL shows in the “Delivered to” section how the parcel was handed over.
Why do I have to enter my postal code?
For certain information, DHL may additionally ask you to enter the recipient’s postal code.
This helps protect your personal shipment information. DHL uses the postal code to verify that you are the recipient of the shipment.
Which postal code should I enter?
Please enter the postal code of the delivery address for your order.
Example:
Your billing address is:
12345 Sampletown
However, your order was shipped to:
54329 Exampletown
In this case, you must enter 54329 with DHL.
The relevant postal code is always the postal code of the address to which the parcel was actually shipped.
After entering the postal code, click the red arrow or confirm your entry.
What can I see after entering my postal code?
Depending on the shipment and delivery status, additional information may then become visible.
For example:
“Delivered to: Safe place”
This means that DHL left the parcel at a designated delivery location.
Other possible information may include:
- recipient
- family member
- neighbour
- employee
- another person
- mailbox
For delivered shipments, DHL may display additional delivery information after the recipient’s postal code has been entered.
Where can I find the detailed shipment history?
Below the current status, you will find the section:
“Detailed shipment history”
Click this section or the arrow next to it.
There you can see the individual stages of your shipment in chronological order.
For example:
The shipment has been electronically announced.
The shipping data has been transmitted to DHL.
The shipment has been processed by DHL.
The parcel is in the DHL network.
The shipment has arrived in the recipient’s region.
The parcel is already close to the delivery address.
The shipment has been loaded into the delivery vehicle.
The parcel is normally on its way for delivery.
The shipment has been delivered.
DHL has completed the delivery.
The detailed shipment history is especially helpful if you would like to know when and where the latest DHL scan took place.
What does “Delivery successful” mean?
The status “Delivery successful” means that DHL has registered the shipment as delivered.
Please pay particular attention to the section:
“Delivered to”
It may show, for example:
- recipient
- safe place
- neighbour
- mailbox
- DHL ServicePoint
- Packstation
If additional recipient information is available, enter the postal code of your delivery address.
My parcel was delivered to a safe place
If the tracking information shows:
“Delivered to: Safe place”
DHL has left the parcel at a designated location.
Please first check possible delivery locations at your address, for example:
- entrance area
- garage
- terrace
- garden
- garden shed
- area behind or next to the house
- a preferred safe place previously stored in your DHL account
If you have registered a permanent preferred safe place in your DHL account, please check this location first.
My parcel was delivered to a neighbour
If “Neighbour” is shown as the recipient, please check the additional delivery information in DHL Shipment Tracking.
For delivered shipments, DHL may display further information about the handover after you enter the recipient’s postal code.
How can I activate DHL notifications?
In the shipment tracking, you may see the button:
“Activate digital delivery notification”
You can use this option to activate DHL notifications for your shipments.
As a registered DHL customer, you can receive information by email and via the Post & DHL App. For example, DHL can notify you when a shipment has been delivered to a safe place, a neighbour, a DHL ServicePoint or a Packstation.
Activate DHL digital delivery notifications
Can I activate push notifications in the DHL App?
Yes.
If you use the Post & DHL App and are logged into your DHL account, you can activate notifications for incoming parcels.
In the app, go to:
More → Settings → Push notifications → Parcel receipt
This allows you to receive automatic updates about important changes to your shipment.
What is DHL Live Tracking?
For certain shipments, DHL offers Live Tracking on the day of delivery.
If Live Tracking is available for your shipment, the following information may be displayed after entering your recipient postal code:
- an approximate 90-minute delivery window
- the number of remaining delivery stops
- a map showing the approximate location of the delivery vehicle
Live Tracking is not available for every shipment and is usually only displayed on the day of delivery. The delivery window shown is an estimate and may change during the delivery route.
Why has the DHL status not changed for some time?
Not every transport step immediately generates a new visible status.
There may therefore be some time between two DHL scans.
If the shipment has only recently been announced, it may also take up to 24 hours before further information becomes visible in the tracking.
Please check the shipment tracking again later.
What does “The shipment has been electronically announced” mean?
This status means that the shipping data and tracking number have already been transmitted electronically to DHL.
The physical processing of the parcel by DHL may not yet have started at this point.
Once DHL begins processing the shipment, a new status will normally appear.
What does “The shipment has been loaded into the delivery vehicle” mean?
This status means that the parcel is in the vehicle scheduled for delivery.
Delivery is planned for that day.
Please note: Even if delivery is scheduled for that day, unforeseen circumstances may cause a delay. A displayed delivery date is therefore always an estimate.
The shipment tracking is not working
Please check the following first:
- Has the DHL tracking number been entered in full?
- Has a number or letter possibly been entered incorrectly?
- Was the shipment only recently dispatched?
- Has it been less than 24 hours since the shipment was announced?
After the shipment data has been created or transmitted, it may take up to 24 hours before the shipment appears in DHL tracking.
The parcel is shown as delivered, but I have not received it
Please first check the complete DHL shipment history.
Then open the additional shipment information and enter the postal code of your delivery address.
In particular, check the “Delivered to” information.
Then please check:
- the stated safe place
- your mailbox
- with people in your household
- with your immediate neighbours
